Program Assistant Needed-LEAP
LEAP Program Description:
Leisure Enrichment for Adult Pursuits (LEAP) is a year-round day program for individuals with disabilities who are 22 years and older. LEAP runs Monday through Thursday from 9:00am-2:00pm. LEAP provides recreation programming for adults with disabilities concentrating in the areas of Community Integration, Independent Living Skills, Health and Fitness, and Recreation and Leisure.
This is a part-time position. Schedule is from 20-26 hours a week.
Take a partnership role in planning, implementing, adapting and leading activities for adults with disabilities under the direction of the LEAP Lead and Adult Day Coordinator in a fun, safe environment. Work with staff to plan, implement and evaluate recreation, social educational, and community activities with participants; meet participant’s needs through assistance with daily living skills, lifting and transferring; preparing and implementing behavior management strategies to ensure safe involvement in recreation programs by people with disabilities. If 21 years old may have added responsibility of driving agency program vehicles.
Program Assistants must be at least 21 years of age. Prefer applicant to have or be working toward a degree from an accredited university in Therapeutic Recreation or related field, or have equivalent experience in recreation setting, working with individuals with disabilities. Certification in CPR and First AID is preferred.
Essential Job Functions:
-Communicate with staff, participants, guardians and the general public, by phone, email and in person
-Maintain a professional working environment
-Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, and walking
-Good hearing at conversation levels
-Capable of clear speech
-Capable of operating a motor vehicle
-Capable of lifting, pushing, pulling, transferring and carrying items or people weighing 20-75 pounds
-Capable of pushing and pulling a wheelchair weighing up to 300 pounds

Part-time jobs are available seasonally for recreation leaders and program assistants to work in programs and special events. Inclusion companions are hired to work with people with disabilities who register for park district/township programs. Having the desire to work with people with disabilities and work in a team environment is necessary.
